Colin has made a career exploring remote parts of the world and sharing his adventures through books, films and presentations. When he completed the first human-powered circumnavigation of the world, he travelled 43,000 km in 720 days, rowing across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, trekking and cycling through 16 countries, enduring winter in Siberia and searing heat in the tropics. He was also the first to raft the world’s fifth longest river, the Yenisey, and is one of a handful of teams to successfully raft the Amazon river from source to sea. Colin’s spent years offshore sailing and has rowed thousands of kilometers in waterways around the world.
He has co-produced four documentaries which collectively won ten awards at international festivals including the Dijon and Telluride Festivals of Adventure Films and has written four books. His writing and photographs can be seen in numerous publications including the Globe and Mail, Reader’s Digest and Cruising World.
Julie Angus is an adventurer, scientist and author. She is the first woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean from mainland to mainland and a recipient of the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year award. She has also cycled across continents, rowed thousands of kilometers of coastlines and rivers, and sailed ancient Phoenician trading routes to research the olive tree.
Explore Magazine listed her as one of North America’s leading adventurers and she is regularly seen on television programs such as Canada AM, CBC Sunday News and Daily Planet. Before becoming an adventurer, Julie studied and developed treatments for heart disease, cancer and genetic ailments. She has two undergraduate degrees with honours from McMaster University (Biology and Psychology) and a graduate degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Victoria. Julie has written for many publications including National Post, Globe and Mail, and EnRoute magazine and her photography has appeared in The Guardian, Outside Magazine, Readers Digest, Explore, and National Geographic, among others. She is the best selling author of three books, Rowboat in a Hurricane, Rowed Trip, and Olive Odyssey.
Julie and Colin Angus are available either individually or together for keynote addresses. They deliver powerful messages in dealing with change, goal setting, risk management and teamwork as they take you around the world on their adventures.
Rowboat In A Hurricane: Dealing with Change and Unexpected Setbacks
Imagine surviving a hurricane with nothing more than a rowboat to shelter you. When Julie and Colin set off on a quest to become the first to row across the Atlantic from mainland Europe to mainland North America this was not what they anticipated. But soon they realized that to succeed they’d not only need to deal with adversity and uncertainly, but embrace it and use it as an opportunity to grow and prosper. Julie and Colin share techniques to deal with changing environments including altering our perception, preparing for the unexpected, assessing risks, and improving communication.
Office in a Rowboat: Taking Teamwork to the Extreme
Julie and Colin deliver an engaging and entertaining account of the two years they spent circumnavigating the globe by human power, focusing on strategies they used to foster teamwork. It doesn’t get more stressful than living, eating, and working within the confines of a rowboat for months on end and this dynamic duo will share their strategies for fostering harmonious and productive dynamics. They dissect the essential components of effective teamwork including conflict resolution, motivation and communication.
Rowing Across the Atlantic: Strategies to Reach Your Goals
Rowing across the Atlantic Ocean seemed impossible at times, yet through goal setting, managing risk, perseverance and dealing with the unexpected, including two hurricanes, Julie and Colin crossed 10,000 km of open ocean. By juxtaposing the difficulties they faced to the challenges in our business and personal lives, Colin and Julie offer an insightful and entertaining perspective on how to overcome our fears, learn more about ourselves, and set goals that help us reach our ambitions.
