Kevin Rempel is a 2013 Sledge Hockey World Champion, 2014 Paralympic Bronze Medalist, motivational speaker, author, and founder of a team building program called the Sledge Hockey Experience.
Paralyzed after a motocross crash in 2006 at the age of 23, Rempel not only learned how to walk again, but to overcome the mental battle of both depression and living with a disability to rebuild his life, and eventually reach the Paralympic podium in sledge hockey. However, Kevin was determined, and willed himself to move one toe, then another, and another until – eventually – he not only walked again but was able to become one of Canada’s best Paralympic athletes. Adding to this, Kevin had to deal with his father, Gerry, who also was living in a wheelchair. While deer hunting, Gerry fell from a tree leaving him a complete paraplegic one year from retirement. Unfortunately Gerry couldn’t deal with living with his circumstances and took his own life in July 2007.
Kevin Rempel has surmounted incredible life challenges to reach the Olympic podium and now to bring his powerful message of hope and resilience, teaching others how to adopt The Hero Mindset to drive results and embrace change. His personal story inspires others, that even when you have every reason to quit, you must keep going. He is an expert in change management, mental health, resilience, and change.
That following year, “Remps” as he likes to be called by his friends, found sledge hockey and set his sights on making Team Canada and playing in the Paralympics. Since then he has travelled the world, inspired thousands of people, and has been featured around the world on TSN, BBC Sport, CBC and CTV. Today, Kevin is focused on helping grow the sport of sledge hockey through his newest venture, the Sledge Hockey Experience.
