Sharon Widdup Experience
Every once in a while, a speaker comes along who is uniquely special. Beyond the pump and hyperbole of professional public speaking, you’ll find Sharon Fawns. Just call her Fawnsy, not Fonzy – Fawnsy – like the deer that roam by the thousands ’round the small southern Alberta farming town where she grew up, (population: 1,800 – including cats, dogs, and gophers).
Sharon was the middle child in a sprawling family of eight children – “the bottom of the top half”, or so she says.
Her father was a trucker and heavy equipment operator. Her mother worked as an aid on a hospital ward. Fawnsy grew up poor and was quiet as a child… except at home. With 8 siblings, Sharon learned how to stand out and generate positive attention when & where it was most needed!
This skill regularly came in handy, especially at Sunday dinner where there were usually at least 15 kids at the table (the neighbors knew a good meal when they smelled one)!
Sharon went to high school, then college, and finally to university. For almost two years after finishing university, she worked as a church missionary in the mid-west U.S. “Bible Belt”. After this unique experience, Sharon took a job at a southern Alberta guest ranch.
Over the next 20 years, she did almost every job you can imagine – and some women weren’t supposed to do. She worked as a cook, a nanny, a grocery store manager, a convenience store clerk, even a cowhand.
In the course of her career, Sharon has accumulated an astounding range of life experiences. She wears the hats of a livestock midwife, a small town preacher, part-time accountant, backstroke swimmer, even a roller skating instructor.
She’s got 10 grandchildren, 35 nieces and nephews and she knows a lot about life. Most of all, she knows a lot about laughter – and how to make YOU laugh. She’s studied it, practiced it, preached it and performed it. It’s become her vocation.
