Tom is the older brother of the late actor and comedian Chris Farley.  In 1997 Chris died from substance abuse.  He was sober for three years and at the peak of his career until a number of professional setbacks led him back to alcohol and drugs.

As a result, Tom started The Chris Farley Foundation, named after his younger brother.  The focus of the foundation was to work with youth through Improv-based workshops designed to grow their communications skills and to help youth audiences create “peer-enhanced” environments, rather than peer-pressured ones.
