The procedures and habits that lead to an outstanding workplace safety record don’t come about by chance. It isn’t by luck that you have successful outcomes; work and repetition gets us there. It’s a reverse way of thinking. In the pursuit of safety, success is when nothing happens. Humans are creatures of habit. We observe, think and adapt, and then we like things to stay that way. Good habits are built through repetition of the good policies. You don’t avoid accidents by accident.

“I sat on the edge of my chair captivated by the story as Carl shared with hundreds of attendees the journey from his youth to world-class rock star, then to the event that changed his life forever. Absolutely incredible!
Several months later I met with Carl to discuss speaking at the 2014 Annual NUTSEA Conference. I have spent most of my life working in an industry that does not give many second chances to the affected workers when errors are made. High voltage power line work demands the strictest and above all consistent safe work practices, or injuries and fatalities can be the result of an incident.
I have now had the privilege of introducing Carl to my colleagues at that conference, all of who are safety and training professionals in the electrical utility industry. We listened as Carl delivered an emotion filled message all the while drawing parallels between his personal incident and challenges we face at our workplace. His interactive style was so compelling as he spoke of lack of focus, distractions, teamwork, job briefings and planning. The connection was immediate.
Last, but certainly not least was how he displayed his gifts and talents by incorporating songs during the story. Such a passionate and exceptionally gifted speaker! We look forward to working with Carl again in the near future and enthusiastically recommend him!”
