Jim Morris thought his major league baseball career was over at age 5. Doctors told him it was. However, strange, and coincidental events placed him on the mound as a relief pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at age 35.
His unusual story was made into a Disney film named The Rookie starring Denis Quaid. The film was a box-office success and won an ESPY for Best Sports Movie of 2002. It also earned a CAMIE award for Character and Morality in Entertainment.
Jim also authored two books with the last one titled Dream Makers. It’s a book that takes up the story from the end of The Rookie.
A seasoned motivational speaker, Jim has traveled since 2001 with participation in prestigious events as The Million Dollar Round Table. His profession is a school teacher, so his storytelling style works for many situations.
Jim was the 2008 recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation and started his own foundation to help children in underserved communities through sports.
